Episode Notes

If you have a feeling something isn’t quite right in the world of disease control...
If your kids are sick of being sick (and their teachers are too)...
If your favourite artists keep cancelling their shows because of another "mystery illness"...
Or if you’ve been suffering for years with Long COVID and can’t believe we’re still not warning people about COVID’s aftershocks...

This show is for you! Dearly Beloved, welcome to Public Health is Dead.

You can find dozens of bland public health shows that say a lot of nothing. This show is different. It's a scrappy indie show keeping an archive of truth, punching above its weight, and building up resistance to institutional abandonment.

Public health as we know it is failing us. And you deserve to know.

If you have a feeling something isn’t quite right in the world of disease control…

If your kids are sick of being sick (and their teachers are too)...

If your favourite artists keep cancelling their shows because of another mystery illness

If you’ve been suffering for years with Long COVID and can’t believe we’re still not warning people about COVID’s aftershocks?

This show is for you. Welcome to Public Health is Dead.

Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today in memory of the institution of public health. It had a decent run. Made us believe the common good was something worth fighting for. That preventing unnecessary death and disease in humanity was our one noble goal. Public health leaders told us taking care of each other was the most important thing we could do.

Until they said it wasn’t.

“You do you” became the motto for centres for disease control around the world

Capitalism demanded we trade our health for business and brunch
Anti-science speaking points came from our friends and colleagues

And official public health advice became as useless as the baggy blue mask blowing down the street.

Dearly Beloved, Public Health is Dead.

At least, as we knew it.

I’m Daniella, I’m a lifelong public health advocate with a background in epidemiology and health science. So, naturally, I’m the host of the podcast Public Health is Dead where we’re on a quest to figure out how to make public health work for us, not against us.

We piece together a new plan through dissecting the history of society and infectious disease, have frank conversations with a variety of guests, and learn from people living with the consequences of our public health failures.

Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly: “I think, like, the major lesson here is that the patients were right. And the so called experts were wrong”

In Public Health is Dead we’re taking a critical look at the field and plotting a course towards better health for all of us.

This might just be the show you’ve been waiting for! And I can’t wait to meet you.
